Instagram Two-Factor Authentication
How to set up two-factor authentication on Instagram to avoid your account being deactivated or hacked.
If you don’t want your Instagram hacked or deactivated, you need to stop what you’re doing and set up two-factor authentication now!
What is two-factor authentication?
According to Instagram, each time access is attempted on your account from a device Instagram doesn’t recognize, you’ll be sent a special code that will need to be entered prior to login. This deters any potential hackers from trying to login to your account.
“Two-factor authentication is a security feature. If you set up two-factor authentication, you'll be asked to enter a special login code or confirm your login attempt each time someone tries accessing Instagram from a device we don't recognize."
How to enable two-factor authentication:
Open your Instagram app
Tap your profile photo in the bottom right of your Instagram app
3. Tap the menu in the top right of your profile page⠀
4. Tap Settings⠀
5. Tap Security⠀
6. Tap Two-Factor Authentication
Here you can choose to use an Authentication App (such as Duo Mobile or Google Authenticator) or use your phone number to receive a code via text message.
In addition, you'll be able to access recovery codes for your account if you have issues receiving a code.
I recommend taking a screen shot of these recovery codes and keeping them in a safe place like a password keeping app in case you do not or are unable to receive the code via text, you are still able to login to your account.

This is not guaranteed to completely prevent your account from a potential hack or deactivation, however, it will help tremendously to keep your account safe. To further safeguard your account, remember to never open suspicious links or emails, do not give out your password or other personal information, and always use good judgement.
